Twilight was unenthusiastic about the concept of making friends, more concerned about the imminent return of a dangerous foe, but when her soon-to-be friends assisted her through her mission, she finally began to understand the magic of friendship, which unlocked the sixth and final element: the Element of Magic. She knew that the Elements of Harmony would be needed, and believed that if Twilight could make friends, they would be able to find them and defeat Nightmare Moon. With Nightmare Moon's return on the horizon, Celestia saw this as an opportunity to break Twilight out of her shell. Princess Celestia was impressed by how much Twilight was learning, but was concerned that she always distanced herself from others, which prevented her from reaching her full potential. The princess then made Twilight her own personal protégée, and Twilight managed to earn her cutie mark through the ordeal. Celestia stated that she had never seen a pony with as much potential as her, but she needed to learn to control her powers. Princess Celestia was able to calm Twilight down, which reverted everything back to normal. Unfortunately, her magic was uncontrolled, resulting in collateral damage (such as turning her parents into plants). Fortunately, she was able to hatch the egg no problem after that. Tasked with hatching a dragon egg with her magic, the young Twilight had all but given up, until the explosion of Rainbow Dash's first Sonic Rainboom kickstarted her magical potential. which she came dangerously close to failing. All she had to do was pass an entrance exam. After near endless amounts of studying, she was enrolled into Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. As a filly, Twilight Sparkle always had a fascination for magic, but after witnessing Princess Celestia raising the sun at the Summer Sun Celebration, her interest grew even more.
